What is Creative Action?

 

The Creative Action National Open Public Forum is the concept of eminent eye specialist  Dr. Mona Mc Garry.  The purpose of the forum is to empower people to create new employment opportunities, and to create a better Ireland for everybody. Creative action is a voluntary non political organisation comprising of people from all walks of life. Creative action believes in enabling people to recognize the wealth of talent and expertise they already have to share.

October 2009: Launch of Creative Action website

Welcome to the Creative Action website. We know this website has been eagerly awaited by all those who attended the National Open forum for Creative Action in the Burlington Hotel on the 21st May 2009. This website has been developed entirely by volunteers and we hope you will find it useful.


The purpose of this website is to:

  1. Facilitate the sharing of ideas that will ultimately lead to the creation of employment
  2. Keep people informed of upcoming events relating to business and employment opportunities.
  3. Facilitate communication between people with business ideas.
  4. Provide contact information of organisations to support new business.
  5. Provide contact information of organisations for those who have lost their jobs.
  6. Provide information on organising Creative Action meetings in other locations.
  7. Keep people informed of activities organised by the Creative Action group.

The inaugural meeting of the first ever National Open Public forum on Creative Action took place in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin on 21st May 2009.  The meeting was opened by John Waters, Irish Times journalist, chaired by Eddie Hobbs and the key note address was given by   Professor PJ Drudy of Trinity College Dublin .The objective of the forum was to provide an insight into the current economic climate and the opportunities that exist in Ireland today.    Representatives from Government Bodies, Trade Associations, Professional Bodies and the Trade Unions were in attendance to provide their expert knowledge on the way forward.    The audience of over 700 people provided constructive input and shared their innovative concepts for generating economic recovery.


The suggestions made at the meeting were:

  1. The use of our natural resources should be a primary source of future employment
  2. Internship and "work for dole" programmes need to be developed for young unemployed graduates
  3. New sources of financial support for startup businesses need to be identified
  4. Upsikilling and training of the workforce is required to achieve  a smarter economy
  5. Easy access to business advice and mentoring for young entrepreneurs
